  • Illinois Program Bodes Well for the Future of Patriots' Tavon Wilson

    15 May 2012 | 8:48 pm
Just as rookie minicamp got underway, defensive back Tavon Wilson—a second-round pick out of Illinois—signed his rookie contract for four years and $4.2 million. Will he be worth it? Analysts questioned the selection, saying Wilson wasn’t rated a second-round talent. Though Wilson has the versatility that head coach Bill Belichick likes, there were other safeties available with higher draft grades than Wilson. People will question the logic behind the Wilson selection, but it’s tough to bet against the history behind University of Illinois defensive backs. Start by…
  • Examining Patriots and Franchise Tag, What Does Future Hold for Wes Welker?

    15 May 2012 | 1:54 pm
If recent history is any indication, Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker will soon be the recipient of a long-term contract. As first reported by Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe and later confirmed by Welker himself, Welker signed the franchise tag, which is worth $9.515 million for the 2012 season. The next step would seem to be a long-term deal, which the Patriots and Welker have until July 15 to reach an agreement upon. But that's not the only path that the Patriots and Welker can go down. As we've seen in the past with the Patriots, one of three things happen: the player and the team…

  • Wes Welker: New England Patriots Receiver Should Shut Up, Sign Franchise Tender

    15 May 2012 | 9:19 am
Wes Welker claims he has 9.5 million reasons to play in 2012, and if that's the case, he should sign his franchise tender and participate in New England's offseason activities. The 31-year-old receiver told WEEI radio on Monday that negotiations on a long-term contract with the Patriots wouldn't stretch into the regular season. Welker then went on to say he wouldn't miss any regular-season games because it would cost him a portion of his $9.5 million franchise tender if he did. If that's the case, and if he's going to eventually work out a long-term deal with the Patriots, Welker…

The Patriots have started to move with their younger players and announced the signing of Tavon Wilson and the release of Mike Hartline. Hopefully they can continue to fine-tune the roster as the off-season gets into full swing. Wilson was selected in the second round, 48th overall, and was considered a shock to most draftniks. While he was a long term starter and a quality player in his conference, he didn't receive recognition in the post-college process and was not invited to the combine or other activities. Still, Bill Belichick and the Patriots thought he deserved to be drafted and…

Simply based on the highlight reel of him playing rugby, his pro day numbers, and an endorsement from Vrabel (after only three seasons of football). • Are you ready to step your fantasy football game up to the next level?

    San Fran Niners

This is for those who want some pointers on how to take their fantasy game to the next level. And you might be asking, why so early? Well, because this is when your work needs to start. Your first step needs to be projecting player's stats for next season. We all have our own ways of doing this. I use a combination of what I have learned over the years as well as looking at similar players in similar situations from past seasons. Another thing to look at when projecting players forward is to look at the schedule. Do they have a lot of easy or tough run defenses on their schedule? This process…

This year, the teams of the AFC-East will face the teams of the AFC-South and NFC-West. Buffalo Bills: I love the moves the Bills have made. They addressed the need at Tackle caused by free-agency, added some much needed pass-rushers, and picked up a couple of CornerBacks. The problem? Their Tackes are going to have a lot to get used to and will get challenged, partly because of how good the interior-3 is on that OLIne. Stevie Johnson is still the only WR that requires serious game-planning. RBs are going to be charging right at DE Mark Anderson, who's still nothing more than a pass-rush…
